In 2006, I was involved in the coaching of 18 PhD students. The majority of these PhD students are carrying out diagnostic research in general practice, the main focus of the departments research programme.
In 2006, the theses ‘Quality of HIV care from the patients’ perspective’ (Christine Hekkink) and ‘ Acute infectious conjunctivitis in a new perspective; diagnosis and treatment in general practice’ (Remco Rietveld) were published by the department of General Practice.
The work presented in the first mentioned thesis described the quality of HIV care in the
The second thesis focused on the development of a diagnostic rule for a bacterial origin of acute infectious conjunctivitis and on the result of a RCT on the effectiveness of topical antibiotic in the treatment of acute infectious conjunctivitis. We showed that fusidic acid gel had a similar cure rate of 7 days as placebo. Two chapters of this thesis were published in the British Medical Journal.
