To introduce participants to the basic principles and algorithms of commonly used bioinformatics methods. The participant will gain sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical skills to be able to apply bioinformatics adequately in their own work.

This course is also part of the ‘Systems Medicine’ training program that includes the courses Bioinformatics, Bioinformatics Sequence Analysis, Systems Medicine, E-science, Computing in R, and Unix.

The course runs once a year for a full week (Monday to Friday). It consists of a combination of lectures and computer labs providing hands-on experience with high-throughput data data and techniques used for data analysis.

- Statistical concepts for the analysis of high-throughput data
- DNA microarray analysis
- Metabolomics data analysis
- Pathways and networks
- Genetical genomics

Target audience:
AMC PhD candidates involved or interested in the bioinformatics applications. Basic knowledge of the statistical programming language R is assumed. Introductory material will be provided for participants with no previous experience with R.

The course is given in English.

To qualify for the certificate, a participant must attend all lectures and workshops, and complete all assignments satisfactorily. Attendance is registered.

Study load:
30 hours, which is comparable to 1.1 ECTS points.

Number of participants:
Maximum 20 per course.

No charge for registered AMC PhD candidates. Employees of the AMC or AMC Medical Research BV can participate provided slots are available. All other participants are charged a fee of 1,250 euro.
