Information about the course Communication with patients.
Aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge of communication theory and skills, and to give advice, tips and tricks on how to communicate effectively with patients in a clinical research setting.
The course will run twice a year and takes up one working day.

An overview will be given of communication theories. The most important communication skills will be discussed, such as how to establish a good working relationship with the patient, ask for informed consent, pose effective questions, coordinate the setting and - respectfully - maintain structure. We will discuss problem situations of individual course participants and practice skills with the aid of a simulated patient.
AMC PhD candidates.
The course is taught in Dutch, since communication with patients will mostly be in Dutch.
A participation certificate is issued. Attendance is registered.
8 hours, which is comparable to 0.3 ECTS points.
Number of participants:
Maximum 6 per course.
No charge for registered AMC PhD candidates. Employees of the AMC or AMC Medical Research BV can participate provided slots are available. All other participants are charged a fee of 125 euro.
