Oncology (Cancer Center Amsterdam; OOA)

Goal:

As a PhD candidate or clinical fellow in the field of oncology it is essential to have basic knowledge about cancer that goes beyond your specific area. Format:

Lectures by experts in the field.
During a part of the day participants will be divided in workgroups. Each workgroup will get a tumor type assigned, the 8 CCA themes serve as guidance for the discussions and daily homework assignments. Workgroups will present their findings at the end of the week.
A home assignment is also part of the course work.

        Scheduled dates:

        • July 8-12, 2019

        Content:

Course set-up: The CCA oncology course has been developed on basis of the seven CCA themes: Cancer Biology, Cancer Immunology, Target Discovery & Preclinical Therapy Development, Imaging, Biomarkers, Therapy, and Supportive Care. For all these themes lectures will be provided by experts in the field. Furthermore, during a part of the day participants will be divided in workgroups. Each workgroup will get a tumor type assigned, the 7 CCA themes serve as guidance for the discussions and daily homework assignments. Workgroups will present their findings at the end of the week.

Assignment: Two months before the course starts, an assignment will have to be carried out by all participants. Randomly, a basic cancer principle, out of the 7 CCA themes will be assigned to each participant. The participant will make a simple and concise A4 poster that explains the principle. All posters will be examined by experts in the field and bundled and distributed among the participants. Participants will be able to study this material a month before the start of the course. In this way a broad amount of basic cancer principles will already be familiar before the start of the course.

        Target audience:
