The Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship programme targeting exceptionally talented Master’s students from outside Europe. The AES is a full scholarship of €25,000 (covering tuition and living expenses) for one academic year with the possibility of extension for a second year (for two-year Master’s programmes).
Am I elegible?
You are elegible for the AES scholarship if:
- you have excellent academic records and belong to the top 10% of your class;
- you are a non-EU/EEA passport holder and are you not eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (Studiefinanciering);
- you have a TOEFL (internet-based) overall score of 100 (with a minimum score of 22 in each of the different components), or an IELTS (academic) overall score of 7.0 (with at least 7.0 in each of the four components), or are you an English native speaker and/or was the diploma that qualifies you to enter higher education completely taught in English (this does not include the European Baccalaureate or French OIB (British or American version).
- you have been involved in extracurricular activities (such as participation in student commissions, international experience, sports or music at a high level or volunteer work)
- you have been admitted to the Master’s program Medical Informatics.

Please mind that the AES programme is highly selective and only awarded to candidates who have both been (provisionally) accepted for the master’s programme and selected by the AES selection committee.
Application procedure
If you meet the requirements and would like to apply for an AES Scholarship:
Please upload:
- a letter of motivation (maximum 500 words) in which you explain the reasons for choosing the Master’s programme of Medical Informatics (broader context, relevance for future career);
- a letter of recommendation by your dean, teacher or academic supervisor, in which he/she also confirms that you belong to the top 10% of your class;
- a description of your extracurricular activities such as participation in student commissions, international experience, sports or music at a high level or volunteer work.
How to apply?
Applicants wishing to apply for an AMS scholarship should upload their application to the International Office via the Digital Student Service Desk. Only serious applications will be taken into consideration.
Application Deadline
Applications for an AMS scholarship for the Master’s program Medical Informatics should be submitted before January 15.
Selection
Only students who have been admitted to the Master’s program Medical Informatics can be awarded a scholarship. Selection will take place in January/|February for the Master’s Medical Informatics. Applicants will be notified before April 15.
