My work focuses upon elucidating neurobiological substrates involved in the development of psychosis. I study different aspects of brain structure and function as well as neurotransmitters and metabolism in patients with 22q11 deletion syndrome (22q11DS) and in patients with schizophrenia. I investigate brain metabolism (i.e. glutamate, glutamine, myo-inositol), white mater integrity in the 22q11DS and its association with susceptibility to schizophrenia. For these studies I use magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), voxel based morphormetry (VBM). I also employed pharmacological magnetic resonance imaging (PhMRI) to study the effects of dopamine depletion on neuronal pathways underlying motivation and reward-related behaviour in healthy individuals and in people with schizophrenia.
