Focus of research

Main focus of my research is on the detection of arteriogenesis of coronary collaterals within the CTMM-EMINENCE project (Center for Translational Molecular Medicine -  Early Molecular Imaging of Neovascularization in Cardiovascular disease). The EMINENCE project aims to develop multiple diagnostic technologies to enable the early and sensitive detection of neovascularization, and novel tools to stratify an individual patient’s risk of cardiovascular disease. It will build on previous experience to develop multi-modal and multi-valent contrast agents suitable for combined platform imaging.

This project involves the use of the imaging cryomicrotome as developed by the Dept. of Biomechnics Engineering and Physics, to visualise sites of angiogenesis and arteriogenesis. Expertise is gained in high resolution imaging of the coronary vascular tree architecture, identification of fluorescent cells and the measurement of local tissue perfusion.
