Profile

Mr. K.B. Otabil is a PhD Candidate and a Lecturer with field and laboratory experience in neglected infectious diseases research especially onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis. He worked on the filariasis team of the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine in Ghana as a Graduate Student Researcher. Whilst there he was involved in the field and laboratory work of several international research projects such as the Sustainable Control of Onchocerciasis Today and Tomorrow (SCOOTT); Anti-Wolbachia targeting of Lymphatic filariasis (AWOL-LF); Anti-Wolbachia targeting of Onchocerciasis (AWOL-ONCHO); Enhanced Protective Immunity against Lymphatic Filariasis (EPIAF-LF); Enhanced Protective Immunity against Onchocerciasis (EPIAF-ONCHO); and Death to Onchocerciasis and Lymphatic Filariasis (DOLF). He conducted research on the ameliorative effects of doxycycline in the treatment of filarial hydrocele. The findings from the research provided pivotal information in understanding anti-wolbachial treatment of filariasis.

His current research focus is on therapeutic targets in parasitic worms of onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis.  He has also been involved in teaching and supervising undergraduate students research since 2013.
