Focus of research
Arthur Kammeyer PhD (AK) is involved in several research lines of the Laboratory of Experimental Dermatology (LED AMC), headed by dr RM Luiten. AK investigates UV-induced anti-inflammatory effects for skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis (AD), and skin ageing. In recent years, he studied the barrier function of the upper skin in relation to AD in collaboration with dr S. Kezic of the Coronel Institute. An advanced and evaluated analytical method for the determination of natural moisturizing factors in stratum corneum was established and is now applied for the evaluation of AD studies in defined patient groups.

AK is also active in melanoma research by studying the activity of compounds interacting with the unique melanocytic enzyme tyrosinase in the framework of the development for successful immunotherapy of melanoma.

AK is involved in allergy testing of the dermato-allergology department in VUmc and provides chemical expertise to clinical colleagues on allergy test compositions.
