ROLE OF SLEEP IN ETHNIC INEQUALITY IN HEALTH
Evidence demonstrates clear ethnic inequalities in health across the globe including health outcomes such as CVD and risk factors, mental health, use of health care services, etc. It has been difficult to explain why the differences occur, hence investigations are still on-going to unravel the mystery, especially as ethnic minorities are increasing and ageing. It is important to comprehend which factors are involved in order to guide prevention and treatment initiatives.
Sleep and its impact on health is increasingly becoming relevant, and may play a crucial role in the observed differences in health outcomes between ethnic minority groups and the host populations. Very little is, however, known about the differences in sleep quality or patterns among ethnic minorities and their role on ethnic inequalities in health outcomes. Hence the focus of my research is to investigate the role of sleep in ethnic inequalities in health.
