Focus of research

Prevalence of ADHD in treatment seeking patients with Substance Use Disorder.

We evaluate the results of the "International ADHD in Substance use disorders Prevalence (IASP)" study. This is the first study of the "International Collaboration on ADHD and Substance Abuse (ICASA) Foundation", an international research group focussed on the topic of ADHD and SUD.

the IASP-study objectives are: 1) Estimate of the prevalence of ADHD in treatment seeking patients with SUD. We will present an overall rate for the prevalence, but also differences in substances like alcohol, heroin, cocain, cannabis, differences in settings and in countries; 2) Validation of the ASRS (adult ADHD rating scale) in this population; 3) presenting results on comorbidities and on development of SUD in patients with and without ADHD.

We will evaluate over 3500 SUD patients from 8 European countries (Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary), Australia and the USA.

Results will be submitted for publication approximately June 2012.
