Focus of research

Reciprocal interactions between coagulation and inflammation in the context of kidney diseases.

Current research programmes:

  1. The fibrinolytic system in renal disease
  2. Active Protein C (APC) and the endothelial protein C receptor (EPCR) in acute kidney injury and renal allograft rejection
  3. APC and EPCR in antiphospholipid antibody-induced renal thrombotic microangiopathy
  4. Platelets and platelet-derived microparticles (PMP) in acute kidney injury and renal allograft rejection

Research programmes

MD PhD J.J.T.H. Roelofs (Coagulation and the kidney)

My group studies reciprocal interactions between coagulation/hemostasis and mechanisms of renal disease. Currently, I focus on 2 distinct but complementary research lines:

1. The role of the Protein C and Protein S anticoagulant systems in acute kidney injury and renal transplant rejection

2. The role of blood platelets in acute and chronic renal disease, with an emphasis on diabetic nephropathy
