Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Ir. Pim van Ooij (currently 37 PubMed entries) is an assistant professor at the Applied MR Physics group of the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine department at the AMC headed by Prof. Aart Nederveen. Dr. van Ooij received his University of Amsterdam PhD in 2012 on 4D flow MRI in intracranial aneurysms. He then went to work at Northwestern University, Chicago, with 4D flow MRI pioneers Prof. Markl and Dr. Barker on a two-year post-doc grant received from the American Heart Association. Here he worked on three-dimensional averaging techniques of hemodynamic parameters in diseased aortas. After two years he returned to the AMC on a TTW grant he wrote with Prof. Nederveen and Prof. Gustav Strijkers. Together, they currently supervise three PhD students working on accelerated 4D flow MRI in congenital heart disease. Accelerated 4D flow MRI was also applied to muscle tissue and ex vivo pig hearts, the latter of which drew significant media attention (AMC and STW magazine). He assisted Dr. Nils Planken in writing an awarded in-house AMC grant to set up cardiac 4D flow MRI for clinical use. They are co-supervising one PhD student.
