Focus of research

There are 2 organ specifik reseach fields in oncologic upper GI surgery: research concerning the esophagus and research concerning the stomach.

My research focus in esophageal cancer

- Dissimination pattern of lymph node metastases and optimal extent of lymphadenectomy

- Optimal surgical approach in esophageal cancer surgery; transthoracic or transhiatal esophagectomy

- Quality of life after different esophageal cancer operations

- Postoperative morbidity: occurence and possible ways to reduce morbidity

- Fluorescence imaging and other imaging techniques to visualize perfusion

- Sentinel node surgery inearly esophageal cancer

- Sarcopenia in esophageal cancer patients

My research focus in gastric cancer

- The value of omentectomy in gastric cancer surgery

- The value of diagnostic laparaoscopy in gastric cancer staging

- Quality of life after different surgical approaches for proximal gastric cancer
