Focus of research

In this interdisciplinary research project, I am using knowledge derived from animal research to study the neurobiological changes that accompany chronic alcohol- and gambling addiction. More specifically, I am studying the role of pavlovian- and instrumental learning behaviors and goal-directed and habitual control in the development of addictive behaviors. To this end, I’m using various neuroimaging techniques including structural- and functional MRI and Diffusion Tension Imaging, as well as behavioral and computational models. The ultimate goal of my project is to advance our understanding of addiction in humans in order to improve treatment effectiveness, allocation and outcome.
