Wieger P. Voskuijl (MD, PhD) is a general paediatrician at the Emma Children’s Hospital at the Amsterdam University Medical Center in Amsterdam (AUMC, since 2016) and works as a clinical researcher in Global Child Health at the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD, senior scientific staff since 2018).
His research focuses is on the interplay between acute illness and undernutrition in children. Early risk prediction and triage are important areas of interest. He is very experienced in the clinical management of children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). Since 2015 he is the site-PI for the Childhood Acute Illness and Nutrition ("CHAIN") network in Malawi. Together with a Malawian team he is leading the Malawi site for this international network funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (www.chainnetwork.org).
In addition to this he is co-PI on a project, Minimally Invasive Tissue Sampling ("MITS in Malawi") that seeks to identify clinical, social, and behavioral characteristics of children at risk of death during admission and after discharge from hospital to guide clinical trials and target interventions for high-risk children (https://wupax.wustl.edu/casestudy/home/desc/mits)
Wieger is a honorary Senior Lecturer in Paediatrics and Child Health at the College of Medicine (COM since 2012), University of Malawi, (Queen Elisabeth Central Hospital).
