Pharmacogenetics in children with asthma
Focus of research

My research focuses on pharmacogenetics in children with asthma. One of my projects is an innovative randomized controlled trial (RCT) to study a pharmacogenetic intervention in asthmatic children, named the PUFFIN (Pharmaocogenetic Use For Further treatment Improvement in childreN) trial.  In close collaboration with pediatric lung physicians from the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam (ErasmusMC) and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) 320 asthmatic children will be included in 15 hospitals in the Netherlands. This trial studies whether precision medicine guided step-up treatment (based on genotyping of the ADRB2 gene that codes for the bèta-2 receptor) will optimise treatment outcomes for the individual patient.
