Go to application form.

Goal:

Information technology has become an essential ingredient of biomedical sciences. The aim of this course is to bring attention to new approaches that can be used for handling large-scale data in biomedical research, including processing, data management and collaboration. At the end of the course, the participant will (1) be familiar with new concepts and state-of-the-art, (2) understand how these new approaches relate to his/her own research, and (3) be able to apply some of these technologies and tools in practice.

    Format:

The course is composed of 4 sessions in two weeks, including presentations by lecturers, invited speakers and students; hands-on exercises; and group discussions.

      Content:

      1. Basic concepts, examples and state-of-the-art of research infrastructures and e-science.
      2. Introduction to high performance computing and national facilities.
      3. Introduction to advanced concepts and tools for (big data) research data management.
      4. Hands-on experience with selected facilities available at/for the AMC
      5. Discussion about study cases from students.

      Target Audience:

AMC PhD candidates who handle large amounts of data to carry out biomedical research. Participants are expected to have some affinity with computers and curiosity about how to exploit them for/in their research.

      Language:

The course is given in English.

      Certificate:

To qualify for the certificate, a participant must attend all lectures and workshops, and complete all assignments satisfactorily. Attendance is registered.
