Medicine

In addition to our contribution to the regular Bachelor’s and Master’s curricula in Medicine (‘Curius+’), we organize the facultative course ‘Techniek in de Geneeskunde’ (Technology in Medicine). This course provides Bachelor’s students an overview of recent developments in medical technology, with the aim of developing the skills required for critical appraisal of diagnostic and interventional technology and its implementation in the clinic. Subjects include the imaging modalities, radiotherapy, minimal invasive surgery and personalized integrated approaches (the human physiome). The course is part of the second year’s Medicine Bachelors program (4 ECTS on specific Thursday afternoons Sept-June), but in principle also available to other students. We provide support for 3rd year Bachelor’s students in Medicine who aim to write a Bachelor’s thesis. The thesis subjects will be made available on Blackboard, but we are open to suggestions for specific topics by students.
We have developed computer-assisted training modules in the area of cardiovascular physics and physiology. These modules are free for you to use. The currently available modules are vascular biomechanics and hemodynamics.Contact person for matters related to our Medical Curriculum:

Our department offers the possibility for research internships (‘afstudeerplaatsen’) in a multidisciplinary environment for Bachelor and Master’s students in physics, engineering, (technical) medicine, life sciences and related disciplines. In addition, a possibility exists for tailor-made internships, based on your interests and expertise. The department hosts a large array of Master’s and Ph.D. students, forming a vivid and enthusiastic community of Dutch and international students. Below you can find a list of currently available internships.

At our department we have multiple projects in which we use machine learning on medical images. Most of these projects work with histopathology images or CT images. Since this is a very active field the subjects of the artificial intelligence projects change often. Please contact Henk Marquering (h.a.marquering@amc.uva.nl) for current opportunities.
